This machine is simple, strong, and compact, and designed for the use of cotton factories, tool and
general machine and repair shops. It will perform all classes of gear cutting with great accuracy and
despatch.
It occupies a floor space of 24 x 48 inches, and weighs, when ready for shipment, about 900 pounds.
It will cut every number to 100, every even number to 186, and has a very wide range of higher numbers.
It is furnished with all necessary change wheels, tables of division, wrenches, etc., one blank arbor, with
nut for withdrawing same, and an adjustable rim rest. Two driving pulleys are furnished with each
machine, thus allowing one change of speed.
It will cut spur, bevel, and worm wheels to 32 inches diameter by 8 inches face, up to 6 diametral pitch,
in steel, iron, brass, or wood, and is especially effective on all sizes under 15 inches.
It may be set at any desired angle for bevel gears by an accurately graduated arc, and has a graduated
adjustment either side of the vertical, so that it may be easily set for cutting wheels to be operated by
worms of almost any pitch; also for trimming the sides of bevel gear teeth, when set over at any angle.
The cutter may be adjusted to the centre, or half an inch either side if desired.
The cutter is fed through the blank by hand, as shown, -a method necessary by reason of the low price
of the machine, and also one by which the largest amount of work (particularly of light work). may be
accomplished.
The countershaft should make about 275 revolutions. Pulleys are 7 inches diameter by 2-3/4 face.
It is thoroughly well made throughout, and is a complete and very convenient machine, with all the
adjustments required in m

A wood framed foot operated mortiser, 48 high with a 47 long table

Pics from American artifact, a great site to look at and maybe buy a machine.
I buy also do buy some machines from him but Iialso buy and collect much larger heaver machines than he seems
to.  This is a free ad Richard  lol.

A wood framed foot operated mortiser, 48" high with a 47" long table. The remains of a paper label on the
frame reads "Kirhle Bros, Scale Manufacturers, Philad. Scale Works, established 1846, successors to Abbott
& Co. and Bates, Dinmore & Co.". The illustration on this label is of a man operating a platform scale. A hand
decorated iron plate on front of the machine is marked "Kirhle Bros" in Pennsylvania Dutch style.
The chisel travel is 4 1/2". The chisel can be adjusted 2 1/2" front to back and pivoted 180 degrees.
The table can be adjusted approx. 9" up and down. The chisel rotating lever fits in a dovetail slide in the
chisel holder and can be removed to expose an access hole directly above the chisel for inserting a
pin to tap out the chisel. A large 1/4" coiled flat spring, 3" wide, is used to raise the chisel and a wood foot treadle
is used to drive the chisel. The machine is in good working order. I've used it, with great pleasure, to cut the
center mortises in several window stiles. One large wingnut has a broken ear, but all nuts and bolt threads are in
good condition and function well. The chisels are 1/2", 3/8", 5/16", 9/32". One of the 4 chisels has a chipped side
wall, but all have sharp edges and function well.

ANTIQUE EARLY CHISEL MORTISER FOOT POWERED CHESTNUT
This is a nice original chisel mortiser in great shape all parts in tact even the hand forged wrenches. This is made
out of chestnut. There are some beetle boring action at the base of the mortiser it would have to be wedged to be
level if it were to be used as a mortiser. It is in working order. Hand forged steel components included the coil that
is pushed by the pedal at the base. The mortiser stands about 47 1/4" high. The bed is 47 1/2" long. There is
about 11.5" of up and down travel. The chuck tapers from 5/8" to 3/8". The chuck has in and out travel out to 3
1/4". You operate it by using your foot and pressing on the pedal it causes the chuck to move up & down. It has a
name plate on the front of the piece that I can not make out.factory tag say,s looks like an R i r h l i B r o, s
